editor's note

Hi suma friends,

We’re celebrating a milestone for the numbers of suma users- thank you for being part of our journey! This winter season, our Holiday Special offering is returning to the suma app and we’re introducing three new vendors for users to choose from. Read on to find out how you can support getting affordable meals to our community. Recently, suma also had the honor of participating in Pitch Latino where we connected with inspiring Latino founders and showcased our growing app.

Thanks for keeping up,

Jacqueline

suma milestones

¡900 users!

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve reached an exciting milestone- 900 suma users! Thank you for being part of our journey to create a platform for frontline communities to save money on things they buy the most. We look forward to the future of what community buying power will look like on a larger scale.

Support our Holiday Special

Suma invites sponsor support for our 2024 Holiday Special, a grassroots project that connects frontline community members to affordable family meals during the holidays via the suma app. Frontline community members use the suma app to purchase and save money on essential expenses.

100 app users will purchase a family meal (feeding 4-6) for just $5-$10, made possible by the app’s combination of vendor discounts, third party subsidy (¡that’s you!) and community buying power.

Want to support your community? Join us by sponsoring meals for suma users!

Pitch Latino

Suma presented at Pitch Latino, an inspiring event organized by the nonprofit Latino Founders. Pitch Latino brings the community together to celebrate local businesses, with eleven Latino company founders showcasing their products, services, or innovations for a chance to win funding. We’re grateful to have presented alongside so many talented founders, including Ocata, a Salvadorian crema company and winner of the top grant. We can’t wait to try your product!

We shared some analytics with the audience about the impact we’ve made so far:

  • Suma users have purchased about $53K in platform products (top line)
  • But they only paid about $10K out of pocket (bottom line)
  • They were able to pay less because they accessed subsidy (orange line) and discounts (yellow line) in their suma app wallets

Holiday Special

This holiday season, suma users can look forward to choosing meals from three local vendors! For the third year, we’re partnering with Sheridan Fruit Co, offering ham or turkey meal options. We’re excited to introduce a new collaboration with Black Girl Veggies, a local, women-owned business that provides delicious, plant-based meals. And, in partnership with Tienda Doña Maria, a local, women-owned grocery store in the Cully neighborhood, users can enjoy traditional Mexican holiday meal fixings. The offering is scheduled to go live November 20th.
