Grocery Store Gift Cards
This spring, we ran a grocery gift card pilot that wrapped up last week.

Over three months we partnered with APANO, Hacienda CDC, Latino Network, and Bienestar to distribute over 600 grocery store gift cards, offering community members $50 in groceries for $25 each.

The pilot was a targeted project to collect feedback to learn more about how we can bring more savings to our community.

What we heard consistently is that flexibility matters. The ability to choose their own groceries — foods that fit their culture, household, dietary needs — made a meaningful difference compared to relying on food pantries.

We’d like to thank Hong Phat, Fubon and our community partners for assisting us in saving our users $15,475!

Farmers Market Season

Lents International Farmers Market is back! Farmers Market Match vouchers are available at the information booth.

Our Farmers Market Match vouchers are also still available at St. Johns and King Farmers Markets!

Get our first-time deal: pay $5 and get $24 in farmers market vouchers — once per season. Or get our weekly deal: pay $1 and get a $2 voucher — up to 15 vouchers.

Stretch your dollar at the farmers markets this season with suma!

a just digital future

Reimagine Oregon

Suma and our partner organizations ensured their constituents were equipped with the digital tools and curriculum they needed to participate in digital activities during Covid. But the loss of federal dollars has made it increasingly difficult to sustain a justice and organizing arm of digital justice work, not only for suma, but for community organizations across the Portland Metro. While the funding has dried up, the need for these programs and resources has only continued to grow. Even so, we’ve found a path forward. We are thrilled that suma was able to secure funding to continue the work we started back in 2020, thanks to Reimagine Oregon. Today, we’re growing our team!

We're hiring!

The Digital Justice Organizer will work on facilitating community conversations on digital privacy and safety, building relationships with policymakers, and helping connect the people we serve to the broader digital justice movement here in Portland and across Oregon.

This is a role for someone interested in organizing, education, or advocacy who is ready to continue to build something meaningful. If that's you, or if you know someone it might be, we'd love for you to share and apply!

Agreement With Lime

Suma recently signed a formal integration agreement with Lime, the world’s largest micromobility provider — making it easier for suma community members to access affordable scooter rides directly through the suma platform.

Under the agreement, Lime applies its Lime Access discount to rides taken by suma users. Suma then subsidizes 20% of the remaining balance, with users paying the rest through suma’s payment system. Eligible users are verified through suma and can then access Lime’s services through the integration, simplifying access while remaining subject to Lime’s Terms and Conditions and privacy protections, while recognizing the importance of data privacy for the communities suma serves.

This agreement is the latest milestone in a partnership that began in 2022, when suma and Lime came together as community partners to expand micromobility access in Portland. It reflects the strength of what both organizations have built together — a platform capable of handling eligibility, payment processing, and connecting to third-party services. For our community members, it means more reliable, affordable ways to get around Portland.
